Nestled in the shadow of Mount Meru, Arusha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most underrated yet incredibly diverse wildlife destinations. Though smaller in size compared to other parks, it offers an astonishing variety of landscapes — from lush montane forests and sparkling crater lakes to open savannahs and alpine meadows.
The park is home to an impressive array of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, bushbucks, colobus monkeys, and more than 400 bird species. While large predators like lions are rare, the peaceful environment allows for unique activities not commonly offered in other national parks — such as guided walking safaris and canoeing on the tranquil Momella Lakes.
A highlight of the park is Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest peak and a popular alternative or acclimatization hike for Kilimanjaro climbers. The views from its slopes are simply breathtaking, offering panoramic sights of the surrounding landscape and Kilimanjaro on a clear day.
Just a short drive from Arusha town, this park is a perfect introduction to Tanzania’s natural beauty — ideal for day trips, nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a peaceful escape into the wild.
